Rumeli Feneri de tıpkı Anadolu Fenerinde olduğu gibi Kırım Savaşının İstanbul‘a bıraktığı bir hatıradır. Kırım savaşı döneminde Fransız ve İngiliz gemileri Karadeniz ve İstanbul Boğazının girişlerini görebilsinler diye 1856 yılında inşa edilmiştir.
Rumeli Fenerinin yapımı da Anadolu Feneri yapımı ile birlikte planlanmıştır. 1933 yılında kadar işletmesi Fransızlarda olan Rumeli Feneri 1933’te işletme sözleşmesi iptal edilerek, kontrolü Türkiye Cumhuriyetine geçmiştir.
Denizden 58 metre yükseklikte olan Rumeli Feneri yerden 30 metre yüksekliktedir. Rumeli Fenerinin hemen yamacında şirin bir liman ve harika bir İstanbul Boğazı manzarası var doğal olarak 😉
Rumeli Feneri de bulunduğu köye adını vermiştir. Rumeli Feneri köyünde fenerin karşısındaki tepede 17. yüzyıldan kalma bir kale kalıntısı vardır. Bu kale cumhuriyet döneminde de karakol olarak bir dönem kullanılmıştır.
